In English
Stockholm Chamber Choir, in collaboration with Church of Sweden in Skellefteå, presents a concert featuring music from Sweden, Finland, and the Baltics.
During tonight's concert, we will hear music from, among others, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia, composed by composers active from 1975 to the present day. The repertoire of the evening offers a modern sound with roots in classical harmony, drawing inspiration from older church music and the Western music tradition, such as Gregorian chant and polyphonic music. Among others, we will hear works by Finland's Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, Estonia's Arvo Pärt, and Latvia's Pēteris Plakidis, as well as compositions from Swedish composers like Gabriella Gullin and Sven-David Sandström.

About the choir and the conductor Jakob Grubbström
Stockholm Chamber Choir was established in 1981 and is an independent, mixed choir consisting of approximately 30 members. Since autumn 2021, Jakob Grubbström has been the choir's conductor and artistic director. The repertoire spans all periods of music, ranging from traditional Swedish choral lyrics to larger works for choir and orchestra. Every year, we undertake several productions in churches and other concert venues, both independently and in collaboration with other cultural actors. Our performances range from classical choir concerts to slightly more experimental musical projects. Over the years, Stockholm Chamber Choir has toured in countries including Austria, Canada, Russia, Italy, and France.
Jakob Grubbström, choir conductor, hails from Arvidsjaur and has been trained at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, the School of Music in Piteå, and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, Wales. He has primarily studied choral conducting under Erik Westberg, Neil Ferris, and Sarah Tennant-Flowers. Additionally, he has participated in masterclasses with Patrick Russil, Paul Brough, Adrian Partington, and Alice Farnham.
Jakob has collaborated with several choirs and orchestras in both the UK and Sweden, including the East of England Singers, Nottingham Festival Chorus, Erik Westberg's Vocal Ensemble, and St. Jacob's Vocal Ensemble, to name a few. In 2016, Jakob founded the Cantores Amicitiae Vocal Ensemble, which has toured and recorded for radio in the UK, Bulgaria, and Sweden. In 2019, Jakob started the choir curriculum at the acclaimed Framnäs Community College outside Piteå and earlier this year was appointed Director Musices at the Univeristy of Linköping, with the overall responsibility for the university’s curriculum in music.
