The way of the cross
1. Jesus is condemned
Pilate asked them, ‘Shall I crucify your King?’ The chief priests answered, ‘We have no king but the Emperor.’

2. Jesus takes up his cross
Jesus carried the cross by himself (John 19.17)
3. Jesus falls for the first time
He was oppressed but did not open his mouth
(Isaiah 53.7)
4. Jesus meets his mother
Mary treasured these words in her heart.
(Luke 2.19)
5. Simon of Cyrene takes Jesus’ cross
A man from Cyrene named Simon was compelled to carry his cross.
(Matthew 27.32)
6. Veronica wipes Jesus’ face
He bore our infirmities and carried our diseases
(Isaiah 53.4)
7. Jesus falls for the second time
He was wounded for our transgressions
(Isaiah 53.5)
8. Jesus weeps over Jerusalem
Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me

9. Jesus falls for the third time

10. Jesus is stripped of his garments
Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.’ And they cast lots to divide his clothing

11. Jesus is nailed to the cross
They came to the place called The Skull, and they crucified Jesus with criminals, one on his right and one on his left.

12. Jesus dies on the cross
Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’

13. Jesus is taken from the cross
Joseph of Aramathea went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen cloth.

14. Jesus is laid in the tomb
The women who had come from Galilee followed,
and they saw the tomb where he was laid.
(Luke 23.55)
15. Jesus is risen
The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid; You are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here. He has been raised’
