Uppståndelsen
Nu fanns det en rådsherre vid namn Josef, en god och rättfärdig man som inte hade haft någon del i de andras beslut och åtgärder. Han var från Arimataia, en stad i Judeen, och han väntade på Guds rike. Josef gick till Pilatus och bad att få Jesu kropp. Han tog ner den, svepte den i linnetyg och lade den i en klippgrav där ännu ingen hade blivit lagd.
Det var förberedelsedag, och sabbaten skulle just börja. Kvinnorna som hade kommit från Galileen tillsammans med Jesus följde med och såg graven och hur hans kropp lades där. När de hade återvänt hem gjorde de i ordning välluktande kryddor och oljor, och sabbaten tillbringade de efter lagens bud i stillhet.
Men dagen efter sabbaten gick de i gryningen till graven med kryddorna som de hade gjort i ordning. De fann att stenen var bortrullad från graven,
och när de gick in kunde de inte finna herren Jesu kropp. De visste inte vad de skulle tro, men då stod där två män i skinande kläder framför dem. Kvinnorna blev förskräckta och sänkte blicken mot marken, men männen sade till dem: ”Varför söker ni den levande här bland de döda? Han är inte här, han har uppstått. Kom ihåg vad han sade till er medan han ännu var i Galileen: att Människosonen måste överlämnas i syndiga människors händer och korsfästas och uppstå på tredje dagen.” Då kom de ihåg hans ord, och när de hade återvänt från graven berättade de alltsammans för de elva och alla de andra.
Det var Maria från Magdala och Johanna och Maria, Jakobs mor. Även de andra kvinnorna i deras sällskap talade om det för apostlarna. De tyckte att det bara var prat och trodde inte på dem. Men Petrus sprang genast bort till graven. När han lutade sig in såg han bara linnesvepningen ligga där, och han gick därifrån full av undran över det som hade hänt.
The Burial of Jesus
Now there was a man named Joseph, a member of the Council, a good and upright man, who had not consented to their decision and action. He came from the Judean town of Arimathea, and he himself was waiting for the kingdom of God. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus’ body. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid. It was Preparation Day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.
The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.
Jesus Has Risen
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.
When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the others with them who told this to the apostles. But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense. Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened.
